Coco Zhao has explored the possibilities of jazz within traditional and modern music and culture, both Western and Chinese. His unique voice, imagination, and expressive singing style have made him beyond reproach as one of China's most creative voices. Coco has gained worldwide recognition and has received invitations to music festivals worldwide. Youth Daily has called him “China’s most promising young Jazz musician".


1997 November, Coco Zhao had the great honor of co-operating with world famous jazz singer Betty Carter (now deceased) at her performance at the International Jazz Festival in Shanghai. They sang together in various Jazz clubs in Shanghai after the concert. In 1998, Coco was selected to perform for American president Bill Clinton and his family during their visit to Shanghai. As the first Chinese band to perform in Montreal Jazz Festival in 2006, Coco and his band “Possicobilities” received much acclaim from the world media, including the Europe One program "La Boite de Jazz." In the same year, He released his new album “Dream Situation” with his musician friends in Shanghai, a project of rearranging old Shanghai tunes into Modern Jazz and Fusion. In 2010, he received a Rockefeller Foundation Asian Cultural Council Scholarship and went to USA for cultural exchange. During his visit in US, he studied with the great jazz vocalist and educator Jay Clayton and Theo Bleckmann. In the same year, he held his own performance successfully in Kennedy Arts Center and brought Chinese jazz music to American audience. Since then, he was invited to perform at jazz festivals in France, Holland, Canada, Spain, England, Switzerland, Thailand and Hong Kong. In 2013, Grammy winner Diane Schuur invited him to an ICS TV show called “Culture Matters”. In May 2014, Coco Zhao performed in JZ Spring at Master Hall with JZ Big Band for the first time. Later, he played for the 10th anniversary of JZ Festival at Master Hall when collaborating with Sinne Eeg, and also at Blue Grass Stage with his band “Possicobilities”. The same year in November, famous jazz vocalist Stacey Kent also invited him as the guest singer for her first concert in Shanghai. In 2015, Coco was invited to the TV Show “Sing My Song”. His original song “Well•Water•Flower” was highly appreciated by famous singer Liu Huan that he himself performed this song later in the TV Show. Coco Zhao’s unique way of expression and understanding of jazz music leaves people a very strong impression, in the summer of the same year, Coco has been invited to France Antibes to participated the Jazz-Juan festival. Then in the same year at the October, Coco was featured with Dee Dee Bridgewater again in Shanghai Jazz Festival.


In 2016, Coco's plan include to participate an Artistsic & music conference which held by Swiss art association, and also come to south America to record his new single

On the 20th year of his own music career, Coco would not only bring us his new big band album to us but also to being like a idol of Chinese original jazz.
